John Lennon & Jean Jullien – Imagine (Literature Review)

Though the lyrics seemingly tell their own story, Lennon’s powerful message of equality, peace and love for all is further enhanced with sweet, simplistic illustrations that draw the eye of a younger audience, but at the same time, do not take away from Imagine’s true meaning.

A heartfelt foreword by Lennon’s wife, Yoko Ono Lennon gives the song some context for the younger audience, by touching lightly upon the history of the song and how, if we all work together, equality is achievable. “We should treat everybody the same, no matter where they are from or if they speak a different language. We should always keep love in our hearts, and look after one another,” she says.

John Lennon’s message continues to resonate with listeners all over the world because of its simplicity and its honesty. In times of turmoil, we need only look to one another for support instead of believing that is the answer. It’s a message that everyone, regardless of age, needs to remember, and why this new book is so important.
